My First Birchbox!

September Birchbox

I received my very first Birchbox this month and was very excited when I opened the mail box on the 15th and saw my pretty pink box waiting with my goodies inside.

What exactly is Birchbox you ask?

Birchbox delivers the best products and the best insider secrets, without any fuss. Every month Birchbox members will receive a curated box of luxe beauty samples. Each box will span beauty categories and deliver exciting products that fit into both your day-to-day routine, and into those days when you want to turn up the drama a notch.
Co-founders Hayley Barna and Katia Beauchamp met at Harvard Business School. They created Birchbox to help women cut through the clutter of the beauty world to find products that really work for them.
Each month, you'll receive a  selection of 4-5 samples that we’ve tried (and retried) ourselves.  You'll receive anything from skincare to makeup to cult beauty tools, from well-known brands as well as emerging gems.

Here is a link to their FAQ page incase you have any other questions that you would like asked

What came in my Birchbox:

The shipping box

The actual box your samples come in. The box is really sturdy and well made.
I plan on keeping my boxes for gift packing and crafts

The packaging is really lovely! I adore the maroon/plum tissue paper.
This is what you see when you first open the box.

Breakdown of what I received.
(product descriptions are from the Birchbox page)

"They might look like stickers but these nifty strips are actually hyper thin layers of real nail polish. When you place them on your nails, they bend and conform to fit the contours of your nail. Plus, they’re actually better for your nails than regular polish because they contain less solvent and have small pores to let your nails breathe."
$7.99 for 16 Double ended color strips
I have to admit that I am a little intimidated by these and have not tried them out yet.

Jouer Lip Enhancer
"The key ingredient in this amplifying treatment is Maxi-Lip, which increases blood flow to your lips without any stinging. Beyond looking fuller, your lips will also be well hydrated because of the built-in vitamin E, shea butter, and jojoba oil."
$14.00 for 0.33fl. oz
This is a really nice and moisturizing lip treatment. I have used it quite a few times already and love how it makes your lips feel like silk.

"The star ingredient is grape leaf extract, which has potent antioxidants that perform a laundry list of functions, from supporting collagen retention, preventing moisture-loss, and regulating oil. If that’s not enough, ginger works to stimulate and restore skin while lavender purifies and balances."
$36 for 2fl. oz
I really LOVE this face cream! It moisturizes my skin without leaving it feeling heavy or greasy. Also, I love the lavender smell!

LIV GRN C2C Fragrance Collection in Earth
"Top notes of jasmine and green leaves blend seamlessly with middle notes of lavender, lily of the valley, and the ocean to give the fragrance its lively and floral appeal. Base notes of musk and sandalwood anchor the scent, but don’t overpower."
$60 for 3.4fl. oz
I love the way this smells! Besides how can you go wrong with perfume samples =)
It  reminds me of DKNY's "Be Delicious"

One year anniversary friendship bracelet
Cute little bracelet. My daughter liked it a lot so I have a feeling she will at some point ask me for it.

So is Birchbox worth the $10 a month/ $110 bucks a year?
Honestly for me it is. I don't often shop at Sephora or Ulta, which give away a lot of these high end samples with purchase. So for me this is an awesome alternative way of getting samples. Yes, a lot of the products in their full size are rather expensive, but you can build up reward point to use towards purchases. For every 100 points you earn, you get $10 off a full-size product order. Also,You receive 1 point for each dollar spent on full-size products in the Birchbox Shop. If you're a Birchbox monthly subscriber or yearly member, you can invite friends to join Birchbox with your unique friend referral link and you'll receive 50 points for each friend that signs up after their first box has shipped. You'll also receive 10 points for every product feedback survey you complete.

I was really happy with all the items I received and can not wait until I receive my next Birchbox!
